Cold-snap sizing (25°F design temp)
High Desert winter design temp is around 25°F overnight. Furnaces sized only for "average" winter undersize for actual cold snaps. We size for the design day, not the average.
Propane in Phelan and Wrightwood
Propane has different BTU content per cubic foot than natural gas. Equipment, orifices, and gas line sizing differ. We are equipped for both fuel types.
Combustion air and flue path
High-efficiency 90%+ furnaces use direct-vent PVC flues that change permitted termination locations. We verify flue path code compliance before quoting, not after install.
Ductwork undersized for new equipment
Most HD homes have undersized return-air ducts that strangle modern variable-speed blowers. We measure static pressure and right-size returns as part of every install.

How long does furnace installation take?
Most residential installs are completed in one day. Major flue, ductwork, or gas line modifications can extend to two days.
What size furnace do I need?
Sized by Manual J heating load calculation, not square footage. Oversized furnaces short-cycle, stress the heat exchanger, and cause uneven temperatures. We do Manual J on every install.
What AFUE rating should I get?
AFUE measures combustion efficiency. 80% is the entry level. 90-95% qualifies for SoCalGas rebates. 96%+ has the lowest monthly bill but the highest upfront cost. We lay out the payback period at quote time.
Should I switch to a heat pump instead?
Modern variable-speed heat pumps perform reliably down to 5°F and qualify for current SCE rebates. They consolidate heating and cooling into one system. We will price both options at quote time.
Do you handle propane installs?
Yes. Phelan and Wrightwood are propane-served. Equipment, orifices, and gas line sizing are propane-specific. We are equipped for both natural gas and propane.
How long does a new furnace last?
Properly sized and maintained gas furnaces run 18-22 years here. Oversized or improperly vented systems fail at 12-15.
Do you handle the permit?
Yes. Mechanical permit pulled, final inspection scheduled, signed-off permit handed to you at job close.
