Quick answer

Ductwork in our service area typically runs $25-$55 per linear foot. 1-3 day install. Static pressure measured before and after every job.

What we do for you

The full scope.

  • Full duct replacement (sealed, insulated R-8, right-sized per Manual D)
  • Return-air right-sizing (most HD homes are undersized)
  • Mastic sealing of existing duct joints (Aeroseal alternative)
  • Flex-to-rigid conversion in attic-mounted runs
  • Duct cleaning (dust, rodent damage, post-fire smoke)
  • Zoning damper system install for multi-level homes

How the job runs

Diagnose → quote → fix → verify.

01

Audit

Static pressure measured at the air handler. Duct camera inspection. Manual D sizing calculation. Photos of every defect.

02

Quote

Repair vs. replace decision per duct run. Itemized scope: which runs get sealed, which get replaced, which get resized.

03

Work

Most full replacements take two to three days. Sealing-only jobs done in one day. We work around your schedule and tarp work areas.

04

Verify

Static pressure re-measured after work. Airflow at each register checked. CFM delivered vs. CFM designed documented.

What it costs

Real numbers, not estimates.

Range Tier What it covers
$25-$35 per ft Sealing + insulation only Existing ducts in good shape, just leak-sealed and insulated
$35-$45 per ft Partial replacement Bad runs replaced, good runs kept and sealed
$45-$55 per ft Full replacement All ducts removed and replaced with R-8 insulated flex

National installed range: $25-$55 per linear ft (HomeGuide, 2026). Average HD home has 100-200 linear ft of supply + return duct. Total job typically $2,500-$11,000 depending on scope.

Common local issues

Built for our climate.

Undersized returns

Most HD homes have one undersized return per system. Return-side restriction strangles the blower, drops cooling capacity 15-25%, and shortens equipment life. We measure return static pressure on every audit.

Attic temperature 140°F+ in summer

HD attics hit 140°F+ in summer. Uninsulated or under-insulated supply ducts gain 5-10°F between the air handler and the register, killing cooling effectiveness. We spec R-8 insulated flex on every full replacement.

Rodent damage

HD attics get rodent traffic. Compressed flex insulation, chewed connections, and contaminated lining are common. Camera inspection finds these. Replacement is usually the right call when present.

Post-fire smoke contamination

After local fires (Bridge, Big Bear, etc.), supply ducts can carry residual smoke odors back into the home for months. We have HEPA cleaning rigs and full-system replacement options for fire-affected homes.

Why JC Energy Solutions

Why pick us for ductwork.

  • Static pressure measured before and after every duct job. You see the airflow numbers, not just our word for it.
  • Manual D sizing on every replacement. We do not just match the existing duct sizes when those sizes are part of the problem.
  • R-8 insulated flex spec'd on every attic install. Lower-grade insulation fails fast in 140°F HD attics.
  • Family-owned since 2019. Duct work is part of the install crew, not a separate vendor.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does ductwork cost in the High Desert?
Sealing-only jobs run $25-$35 per linear foot. Partial replacement (bad runs only) $35-$45. Full replacement with R-8 insulated flex $45-$55. Average HD home has 100-200 linear ft of duct, so total jobs typically $2,500-$11,000.
How do I know if my ducts need replacing?
Signs include: rooms that never reach setpoint, high summer electric bills, dust accumulation around registers, visible duct sag, and uneven temperatures between rooms. We measure static pressure and inspect with camera to confirm.
Is duct cleaning worth it?
DOE notes that routine duct cleaning rarely improves indoor air quality on its own. Worth it after rodent contamination, post-fire smoke, or major remodels that left construction dust behind. Not a substitute for a clean filter.
What is duct sealing vs. duct replacement?
Sealing applies mastic at every joint to stop air leaks (typical leak rate 20-30% on un-sealed ducts). Replacement removes old ducts and installs new R-8 insulated flex. Sealing extends life on ducts in good condition. Replacement is needed when insulation is degraded, ducts are undersized, or there is rodent / fire damage.
How long does duct work take?
Sealing-only jobs are usually one day. Full replacement two to three days depending on home size and attic accessibility.
Will you handle this with my AC install?
Yes. Our team right-sizes the return duct and cleans your duct work with any installation. This is included in every install quote, not a separate add-on.
Do you offer financing?
GreenSky promotional plans (some 0% APR) plus Wisetack soft-pull pay-over-time. See financing options.
What about the air filters?
New ductwork lets us upsize the filter slot to MERV 13 or higher without restricting airflow. We typically install a 4-inch deep media cabinet at the return.
