Why JCE in Wrightwood

Local crew.
local response.

Wrightwood is alpine. Different climate, different heating priorities, different equipment than the HD valleys. Snow is a real consideration. Most homes are propane-heated. AC use is light (mild summers) but heating load is the dominant factor. Many homes use cold-climate heat pumps or wood stove + small backup heat.

Common High Desert issues

Built for our climate.

Cold winters with snow (5-25°F design temp)

Wrightwood winter overnight lows regularly hit single digits during cold snaps. Standard heat pumps fail at these temps. We spec only cold-climate variable-speed units rated for sub-zero operation, or dual-fuel systems with propane backup.

Snow on outdoor units

Outdoor heat pump and AC condenser units in Wrightwood need extra elevation off the ground (typically 12+ inches above grade) and snow shields to prevent drift accumulation. We mount higher than HD valley installs and verify defrost cycle.

Propane fuel for backup heat

Wrightwood has no piped natural gas. Propane is universal. Propane-rated equipment, tank diagnostics, and regulator work all differ from natural gas. We are equipped for propane.

Mild summers, light AC use

Wrightwood summer highs typically peak in the high 80s. AC use is light. Many homes never installed central AC and use mini-splits or window units only. We do mini-split installs for clients who want cooling without full ductwork.

Where in Wrightwood

Every corner of the city.

  • Village core (along Hwy 2)

Older cabin-style homes, propane heat, light AC use. Mini-split retrofits popular.

  • Mountainside / Big Pines area

Higher elevation, even more cold-snap exposure. Cold-climate heat pumps mandatory.

  • Lone Pine Canyon

Rural mountain lots, longer line-set runs, more propane work.

Found company on-line when A/C went out. Jessica answered and was so friendly and professional. I called at about 9am. By 10:30 two gentlemen showed up and by noon my A/C was working better than ever. Would recommend this company anytime!

I suppose Evaporative (Swamp) coolers fit under one of the above, maybe not. Either way, Mike came out to diagnose my problem, was very polite and professional. I like the way he works.

Our A/C went out on Wed 08/31at 2:00am, as you know this has been a tremendous heat wave. I called on Thursday, Joseph came out gave me an estimate, ordered the unit and had it installed on Friday. Joseph's technicians worked quickly and efficiently. In my opinion they went above and beyond to get everything installed, keep in mind this is Labor Day weekend. I can't THANK YOU enough. Pricing and financing was amazing as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you really serve Wrightwood from Hesperia?
Yes. About 60 minutes drive from our Main Street office. Most service same-day in good weather, longer in winter snow conditions. We coordinate weather-aware dispatch.
Can heat pumps actually work at 6,000 ft elevation in Wrightwood winter?
Yes, but ONLY cold-climate variable-speed models rated for sub-zero operation (Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat, Daikin Aurora, Carrier Infinity). Standard heat pumps will fail. Dual-fuel (heat pump + propane backup) is also a popular Wrightwood setup.
Do I need AC in Wrightwood?
Most Wrightwood homes operate fine with a mini-split or window AC for the few hottest weeks per year. Full central AC is overkill for the climate. We can quote either approach.
Do you handle propane systems in Wrightwood?
Yes. Wrightwood is propane country. We are equipped for propane installs, regulator work, and tank-supply diagnostics.
How much does HVAC service cost in Wrightwood?
Standard service rates apply. Travel time is 60 minutes vs. 30 minutes for in-Hesperia service so emergency calls may have a slightly longer wait window. AC repair: $150-$850. Furnace repair (propane): $150-$650. New install pricing per service page.
What about snow on my outdoor unit?
We mount Wrightwood outdoor units at least 12 inches above grade with snow shields to prevent drift accumulation. Defrost cycle verified at commissioning. Annual fall maintenance includes snow-prep check.
